Malia Reichmann was sworn in as an Edison municipal court judge on Monday, Sept. 30, the township said in a news release. The 32-year-old is a lawyer who graduated from Columbia Law School.

Reichmann said it's a "dream come true" to be a judge in her hometown.

"Thank you to Mayor Sam Joshi and the Edison Township Council for entrusting me with upholding laws that make our community safe, beautiful, and a welcoming place for everyone," said Reichmann. "I look forward to learning from Chief Edison Municipal Court Judge Dipti Dedhia and to blend my legal expertise with my dedication to my community."

Reichmann is the third female judge named to the bench by Mayor Joshi.

"The appointment of Judge Reichmann is a step towards our elected officials representing our diverse community," the mayor said. "Her deep understanding of our township and commitment to justice will be an asset to our judicial system."

Reichmann posted a Facebook reel of her swearing-in ceremony and celebration.

"Today caps it all off," said Reichmann's mother Miriam Weiss. "Being appointed as a judge to serve the public and to serve her community is really a very proud moment."

In another reel, Reichmann said she has been inspired to be a judge since she was a baby. Her mother brought her on stage at three months old at her law school graduation.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Reichmann graduated from Yeshiva University in New York City in 2014 before getting her law degree from Columbia. She was an associate at the Fried Frank international law firm for a year before joining Weiss Properties as a general counsel for more than six years.

Reichmann was appointed to a three-year term in the municipal court system.
